Ficus

Stephanie Merulla & Adam Bagatavicius

A musical theatrical and investigative collaboration between Stephanie Merulla and Adam Bagatavicius;  Ficus began in 2006 in Saint Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, Canada.

Between 2007-09 the duo performed new and interdisciplinary material mostly exploring the world of open mic in Montreal. This eventually led to a cross-country busking adventure, developing a new show called ‘Revenge in Far-Tar Land’.

The show was intended to be performed as a busking street performance or alternatively a cabaret-style event, however, there is hope to convert it into a digital podcast. The story explores themes of gentrification, human greed, and the value of friendship. The comedic tale is told as a fairytale but favours the grotesque and absurd, making it suitable for a mature audience.

Revenge in Far-Tar Land tells the story of a young modern-day princess who inherits her late father’s property and decides to build a dreamland for herself and her chosen friends. Without much consideration for her newfound responsibility, the princess evicts a 300 hundred-year-old witch from her land. In turn, the witch curses the princess with the power of her will, resulting in a series of deadly unfortunate events.
